Katie Rose Higgins, Kathryn Miranda tied for lead in Womens Carolinas Amateur at Yeamans Hall
Charleston’s Katie Rose Higgins, a sophomore at the University of South Carolina, posted a 2-under-par 70 Tuesday and is tied with College of Charleston sophomore Kathryn Miranda of Lexington for first place in the Women’s Carolinas Amateur Championship being played at Yeamans Hall Club.
Higgins won the 2009 South Carolina Junior played at Yeamans Hall, while Miranda was the 2009 Carolinas Junior runner-up.
Two strokes back are Karli Heimbecker of Sanford, N.C., and Stacey Tomlinson of Greeleyville.
Jackie King leads the Carolinas Tee division (shorter tees) with a 77. Angela Stewart of Greenville, N.C., shot 1-over 73 and holds a four-shot lead over Karen Ferree of Hilton Head in the seniors division. Carole Jones of Hillsborough, N.C., and Susan Harden of Beaufort are tied for the super seniors lead with opening 78s.
A field of 96 golfers is competing in the 54-hole tournament. Today’s tee times run from 8:30 a.m.-10:31 a.m., with the leaders starting first off Nos. 1 and 10.
