James Island man accused of bigamy heads to trial
A James Island man married one woman while still legally married to another, authorities say, and now he heads to trial in the bigamy case against him.
Michael Lee was expected to enter a guilty plea in circuit court this afternoon but instead requested a jury trial.
A 31-year-old woman told investigators that her husband, 31-year-old Lee, married another woman. The woman who filed the report returned home from a business trip to find that Lee had moved out, according to court records.
The court document says Lee admitted that he was never granted a divorce from the first wife. His attorney said Lee had not spoken to the women in years and that she told him she sought a divorce when they parted ways.
