Spoleto Festival USA unveils its 2012 poster, which depicts a portion of the painting ìBeastî by Li Songsong, a young Chinese artist well known in the People's Republic for his large-scale compositions which consist of thick, colorful impasto. It's a bit of a political statement, one that coincides with the presentation of a Chinese opera, "Feng Yi Ting."

You, dear reader, will be enjoying a cornucopia of performances, beginning today and running through June 10.

The Spoleto Festival and Piccolo Spoleto Festival this year promise to disabuse you of any notion concerning the irrelevance of art.

We at The Post and Courier will enjoy sharing the adventure with you.

The newspaper will publish daily a selection of feature stories and in-depth reviews as well as a plethora of exclusive dynamic content for our website, postandcourier.com.

Online you will find videos, photo galleries, blogs, podcasts and other digital content meant to expand upon what you get in print.

Expert writers will explain what’s going on and offer informed critiques. A group of arts journalism graduate students from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications will flood the zone to produce thoughtful articles, videos and other content.

We will share what we think is important. We will challenge you to think and question. We will enlighten, tantalize, tease, foil and cross you. We will take you behind the scenes. We will introduce you to serious artists. We will wax enthusiastic about performances that thrill us and speak up when we see something amiss.

We will do these things with gusto, for this is an arts town, and an arts town deserves a spotlight.
