Ashley Ridge begins state title quest after Monday’s postponement

The Ashley Ridge baseball team had to put its state championship aspirations on hold Monday when Game 1 of the Class AAAA State Championship Series against Byrnes was rained out.

The two teams will square off at 7 p.m. today at Byrnes. Ashley Ridge advanced by eliminating the No. 1 team in the state, Lexington, on Friday.

The No. 2 Swamp Foxes have plenty of talent.

Lorenzo Wright and Bryan Dye have signed with the College of Charleston, while Austin Livingston signed with The Citadel and Nick Bell signed with Coastal Carolina.

Game 2 is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday at Ashley Ridge. Game 3, if necessary, will be played Saturday at a neutral site.
