10-cent CARTA bus fare hike memo for discussion only at Wednesday meeting
The effect of a 10-cent hike in regular bus fares is discusssed in a memo to be presented Wednesday at a meeting of the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority, but the board is not considering raising fares, said Chairman Elliott Summey.
“We’re not looking into any increases right now,” Summey said.
The memo was prepared at the request of board member Linda Page, who said the analysis of a 10-cent general fare hike is for information only.
“We’re trying to be more sustainable on the income that we have,” she said.
The memo will be discussed at a 1:30 p.m. meeting of the CARTA board Finance Committee followed by the board meeting at 2 p.m. The meetings are in the second-floor County Council chambers at the Lonnie Hamilton Public Service Building.
