Chris Fraser of Avison Young.

The former local commercial real estate affiliate of bankrupt Grubb & Ellis Co. has joined a growing Canadian franchise.

Avison Young’s first South Carolina office in the Charleston market will be led by Chris Fraser and Jeremy Willits.

Fraser, who is chairman of the Charleston Country School Board, is principal of statewide operations for the firm. Willits is managing director of the local branch, which has nine commercial real estate brokers and three support staffers.

“The group has a solid reputation for great client service and will be instrumental in helping Avison Young expand our business throughout the Southeast U.S.,” said Mark E. Rose, CEO of Avison Young. “South Carolina is home to several important corporate headquarters and presents a strong regional growth area for our company.”

The new office is at 550 Long Point Road in Mount Pleasant. It is the firm’s 14th location outside Canada.

All of the brokers who switched to Avison Young previously were with Grubb & Ellis|WRS. Independently owned WRS recently terminated its franchise agreement Grubb & Ellis, which filed for bankruptcy earlier this year and has since been sold.
