A woman injured in a motorcycle crash Friday on the Crosstown died early Saturday.

Jennifer Morrison, 37, of Johns Island died at MUSC at 1:25 a.m. , according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton. Her husband, David Morrison, 39, was killed in the crash.

Just after 7:30 p.m. Friday, the motorcycle driven by David Morrison hit an on-ramp wall on the stretch of road connecting the Septima P. Clark Parkway to Interstate 26. The impact of the crash threw Morrison and his wife over the wall, where they fell 40 feet.

Charleston police Lt. Jason Emanuele, commander of the police department’s special units, said investigators were told the motorcycle was trying to pass a car on the right when it struck the retaining wall on a sharp curve.

The couple landed near railroad tracks between King and Meeting streets.

Neither of the accident victims was wearing a helmet, Emanuele said, adding that probably would have mattered little considering the distance they fell.
