Academic Magnet knocks off Swansea, 4-0, in girls soccer playoffs
Kallie Peurifoy scored twice and Jenna Beauregard and Arden Turkewitz added one goal each as Academic Magnet High School took a 4-0 win over visiting Swansea on Friday night in the Class AA-A girls soccer playoffs.
The Raptors (20-3), seeking their second straight state title, will play for the Lower State championship at 7 p.m Monday against Bishop England at Ravenel Stadium.
Swansea battled Academic Magnet on even terms for about the first 20 minutes of the match, before Peurifoy broke through for the first goal. Keeper Emily Gossen was able to keep Swansea out of the goal.
“It was good to get some good competition,” Raptors coach Anna Merriman said. “Swansea brought a lot of physical play. It took us a long time to get that first goal, but once we did we were were able to get a couple more.”
Academic Magnet beat Bishop England twice during the season, by scores of 2-0 and 1-0.
