A day after clinching a berth in the Southern Conference tournament, The Citadel baseball team clinched its three-game series with Furman, taking a 3-1 victory today at Riley Park.

The Bulldogs (24-27, 13-13) go for the sweep over the Paladins (22-28, 9-17) at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Joe Jackson and Grant Richards drove in runs for The Citadel, and pitcher T.J. Clarkson (3-4) got the win with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Starter Kevin Connell allowed just one run on five hits over 5 2/3 innings, and Ryan Hines earned his seventh save by pitching a scoreless ninth.

Jonathan Stokes doubled and scored on a throwing error in the third for The Citadel. The Bulldogs scored two more in the eighth as Mason Davis doubled and scored on Jackson’s double. After two walks, Richards brought home Jackson with a sacrifice fly.

The Citadel has won four straight and six of its last eight games. The Bulldogs’ 7-0 win over Furman on Friday, coupled with a loss by UNC Greensboro, clinched a spot in the eight-team SoCon tourney for the Bulldogs, who missed the tournament last year.
