No. 3 South Carolina blanks Furman, 7-0, in baseball

COLUMBIA — Evan Marzilli belted a three-run homer and tied a career-high with four RBIs as No. 4 South Carolina blanked Furman, 7-0, in baseball Wednesday at Carolina Stadium.

Starter Joel Seddon (2-0) threw five scoreless innings for South Carolina (37-12) as four pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout.

Furman fell to 22-26.
South Carolina led 1-0 until Marzilli struck in the fifth with a three-run home run to right field.

South Carolina increased the lead to 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh. After loading the bases with one out, LB Dantzler singled in a run and Kyle Martin drove in another with a sacrifice fly to right field.

The Gamecocks made it 7-0 in the eighth inning with Marzilli driving in his fourth run with a two-out RBI single. Marzilli went 3 for 5, while Dantzler was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.

Chris Ohmstede was 2-for-4 to lead Furman.

South Carolina is at Georgia for a three game series starting at 7 p.m. Friday.
