RiverDogs furious rally falls short in extra-inning loss to Delmarva
Justin Dalles’s RBI double off reliever Philip Wetherell in the 10th inning broke a tie as the Delmarva Shorebirds handed the Charleston RiverDogs an 8-7 loss in South Atlantic League baseball on Tuesday.
The ending in front of 2,385 came after a wild ninth inning that saw the teams score four runs apiece.
Delmarva (15-16) got its runs with two outs on a two-run single by Wynston Sawyer and a two-run double by Connor Narron after loading the bases on two singles and a walk.
The RiverDogs (21-9) fought back, opening their half of the ninth with a single and a pair of doubles, the second by Kelvin De Leon to score two runs and cut the deficit to 7-5. The RiverDogs then loaded the bases, and with two outs, Dante Bichette, Jr. singled through the middle to tie the game.
In the 10th, Dalles came through with the game-winner and David Baker pitched a scoreless inning to allow the Shorebirds to split the four-game series. Baker (1-0) also got the final out of the ninth.
Angelo Gumbs was 3 for 5 for the RiverDogs.
