Goose Creek police are seeking a man they said carried out a scheme to defraud Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union on St. James Avenue.

A 20-year-old man told police he was forced by an unknown man and woman to open a bank account and then to make a fraudulent withdrawal at an ATM. Police are circulating a photo of the man believed to have been behind the scheme.

The incident began about 8 a.m. April 2, when the 20-year-old came to the credit union, and with an $80 check opened an account and obtained a debit card. Police said an empty envelope was deposited in the ATM purporting to contain $300, and then a withdrawal of $160 cash was made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Investigator Micah Fogle at 843-863-5200, ext. 334.
