Wando tops White Knoll to remain alive in Class AAAA softball playoffs

MOUNT PLEASANT — TheWando softball team defeated White Knoll High, 4-1, on Monday night to remain alive in the Class AAAA Lower State Championship Series.

Wando hosts Summerville at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Danica Newton pitched a six-hitter as Wando upped its record to 23-7.

Cadie Limbaker went 4 for4 with an RBI to lead the Warriors. Nikki Pellegrini and Mary Margaret Taylor both had RBI singles.

Hanahan 5, Dillon 3
DILLON — Hanahan’s long trip to Dillon was worth it Monday as the Hawks picked up a 5-3 softball victory to remain undefeated in the Class AA Lower State Championship Series.

The Hawks are off until Friday when they will host the winner of Wednesday’s elimination game.

Baseball
The Berkeley Stags improbable run through the Class baseball AAA playoffs that culminated in the District VII championship came to an end, falling 12-0 to the Chapin Eagles in an elimination game.

Berkeley was never in the game, falling behind quickly in the first inning, 3-0.

The Eagles, who lost 10-0 to St. James in their first round game, added a run in the second, 3 in the third and 5 in the fifth to put the game away.

The Stags end the season with a remarkable 19-8 record and graduate just three seniors, bringing back 7 out 9 starters in 2013.
