Two people were hospitalized Monday night after their car collided with a deputy’s patrol cruiser in Moncks Corner.

Deputy Shawn T. O’Neal, 39, of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office was not hurt in the collision around 10:22 p.m. on U.S. Highway 17A at California Avenue.

The driver of the other vehicle, 51-year-old Cynthia L. Segar, and her passenger, 29-year-old Antonio Segere, were transported to a local hospital, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

Cpl. Bob Beres, a patrol spokesman, said Segar’s 2001 Nissan was northbound when it turned left toward California Avenue and into the path of O’Neal’s Ford. After the crash, the deputy’s cruiser went off the road and hit a utility pole, Beres said.

All people involved were wearing a seat belt.

Beres said that the crash was still under investigation and no charges had been determined.
