Justin Marcus Boyd, 22, of Folly Beach charged by Charleston police with car break-ins

A man who was detained by a crime victim and a witness last week is charged with breaking into four vehicles in Charleston, police said.

The break-ins occurred May 2 on Hasell Street, George Street and at Pinckney and Meeting streets, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said today.

He said Justin Marcus Boyd, 22, of 1668 Ashley St., Folly Beach, is charged with four counts of breaking into a motor vehicle and second offense possession of marijuana, Boyd is being held at Cannon Detention Center.

Officers dispatched about 11 p.m. May 2 to a reported larceny at Pinckney and Meeting streets found a victim and a witness detaining a suspect, Francis said.

The witness told police he saw the suspect sitting in the driver’s seat of the victim’s vehicle. The witness located the victim, and together they confronted the suspect, who fled on foot but was caught about a block away on Maiden Lane, Francis said.

He said Boyd is accused of taking a credit card from the vehicle and with having .05 ounces of marijuana in his possession.
