Summerville defeats Wando 1-0 in Class AAAA softball
SUMMERVILLE — The Summerville softball team collected only one hit off Wando’s Danica Newton on Saturday night, but the Green Wave made it count.
Kaitlyn Clark hit a run-scoring single in the third inning for the game’s only run as Summerville posted a 1-0 victory in the Class AAAA Lower State Championship Series.
Taylor Powell got things started in the third inning when she reached on an error, one of five committed by the Warriors (22-7). With two outs, Sarah Montei bunted Powell over to second, and then Clark knocked her in to push Summerville’s record to 24-4 and give the Green Wave a home game on Monday at 6 p.m.
“It’s good to get that first win,” Summerville coach Heather Tucker said. “Wando played well. They just weren’t able to get that timely hit. We were.
“To be able to play the first two games at home is huge,” Tucker said.
“If we win on Monday, we can even be home on Friday.”
