A Charleston County sheriff’s deputy was charged with DUI early Sunday following a crash on Interstate 526 at U.S. Highway 17.
Charleston police responded to the wreck at 2:30 a.m. and charged Deputy Nicholas Wagner, 37, with 1st offense DUI, sheriff’s Maj. James Brady said. He was taken to the Charleston County Detention Center.
Brady said Wagner was off-duty and driving a personal vehicle at the time of the wreck. He has been placed on administrative leave without pay.
No one was injured in the wreck, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said.
He said an incident report would be made available Monday.
