Man dies when mattress bounces off pickup truck near Lake Marion
A man died this afternoon when the mattress he was sitting on in the back of a pickup truck bounced off onto the roadway.
The accident happened at 4:10 p.m. on Moses Dingle Road, according to Highway Patrol Cpl. Bob Beres. The scene is about five miles north of Lake Marion in Clarendon County. The name of the man who died was not released today.
The driver was identified as Betty A. Burgess, 53, of Manning. She was driving a 1994 Dodge pickup north when the mattress bounced off the truck, according to Beres. A passenger who was not identified was riding in the cab. Both the driver and the passenger in the cab were wearing seatbelts, according to Beres. The Highway Patrol is investigating.
