RiverDogs top Lakewood, 5-1, to complete sweep
Charleston scored five runs in the second inning and shut out Lakewood for the final eight innings to earn a 5-1 win and a series sweep with 4,737 on hand at Riley Park on Friday night.
The win kept the RiverDogs in first with the best record in the South Atlantic League at 19-7.
Lakewood (9-17) scored first against the RiverDog’s Brett Gerritse in the first, but that would be it.
Ballpark fun
Any fan who visited the ballpark wearing red received $1 off their ticket. Boy Scouts camped out on the field after the game. Fireworks followed the game.
Coming up
The RiverDogs start a four-game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds today.
Right-hander Caleb Cotham will pitch for Charleston (2-1, 2.86 ERA) against left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (1-0, 2.57 ERA) of Lakewood. Fans can come out to see Team Ghost Riders Cowboys Monkey Rodeo, who will be performing during the game and herding goats after the game. The first 1,000 fans get a toothbrush holder. Tri County Residents who purchase their tickets at the box office at The Joe will receive $1 off their ticket.
