Wando lacrosse standout Lizzy Reed named All-American

Wando girls lacrosse player Lizzy Reed continues to receive honors. The senior was named an All-American by U.S. Lacrosse.

Reed, who also earned all-state honors, led the Warriors to a 14-1 record and a berth in the Lower State title game.

She scored 72 goals and recorded 30 assists. She also tallied 38 ground balls.

Reed was named The Post and Courier’s Player of the Year last spring after leading the Warriors to the state championship.

Three other players from the Palmetto State were recognized for their outstanding seasons.

Maddy Katz of Fort Mill was named first-team all-American while Meghan Tovine and Caitlan Walsh of J.L. Mann received honorable mention.

Glover signs with CofC
Summerville track and field standout RoShani Glover signed with the College of Charleston. Last spring, she scored 13 points at the state meet, finishing third in the long jump (16-11½), fourth in the triple jump (37-10) and seventh in the high jump.

She has the best jumps in the Lowcountry this spring, sailing 18-1 in the long jump and 39-½ in the triple jump.

Region 6-AA track
Woodland will host the Class AA Lower State track and field championships, and the meet should produce some of the best times and distances in the state.

Chris Brown of Hanahan has the fastest time in the 100 meters (10.51) and the best efforts in the triple and high jumps at 47-1½ and 6-8, respectively.

Bishop England’s Deangelo Stephenson has the top times in the 200 and 400 with respective times of 21.99 and 50.05. Teammate Nathan Leach has the best time in the 1,600 at 4:26.55.

Woodland’s Chris Gaddist has the top time in the 400 hurdles with a clocking of 55.20, while teammate Rameak Smith has the top long jump at 22-6.

The Bishops have the top time in the area in the 3,200 relay with a time of 7:58.39.

Finally, Griffie Loy of Bishop England has has the top shot put at 57-1½.

Riley named coach
Former Colleton County football coach and athletic director Leroy Riley was recently named football coach and athletic director at Colleton Prep.

Riley served at Colleton County and the old Walterboro High for 24 seasons and owned 157-140 mark in his 24 seasons with both Walterboro and Colleton County High. He led Walterboro to a state title in 1997.

But the program struggled with a 5-39 mark in the last five years. The Bulldogs begin the 2012 season with a 23-game losing streak.

SCISA baseball stars
J.D. Waite of SCISA Region 3-AAA baseball champion Pinewood Prep is the player of the year, while the Panthers’ Phil Tobin is coach of the year for the region. Pinewood’s other selections are Steve Hansen, Hayden Heflin, Jack Buddin and Brian Ducet.

Northwood Academy’s selections are Andrew Lockliear, Tyler Gross, Ryan Trout and Charles Odom. Porter-Gaud’s picks include George Phillips and Edward Nelson.

Hilton Head Christian’s selections include Andrew Halley, J.D. Reichel and Alec Ambrosic.

Hilton Head Prep’s selections are Patrick Broidy and John Sheehan.
