Former Atlantic Beach manager charged with assault

Associated Press
ATLANTIC BEACH — The former town manager in Atlantic Beach has been arrested on an assault charge.

Fifty-four-year-old Benny Webb of Sumter was arrested Thursday by the State Law Enforcement Division and accused of third-degree assault and battery.

An arrest warrant accuses Webb of grabbing and threatening to harm Pat Curry at Atlantic Beach Town Hall on Jan. 31.

Webb took over as interim Town Manager in Atlantic Beach in July, but resigned by the end of the year. He said he would remain until a replacement was found but his last day was March 12. The town has not filled the position.

The former SLED agent is a candidate for Sumter County sheriff. He says he is staying in the race. Webb says he looks forward to being cleared of the charge.
