HMS Bounty tall ship to visit Charleston Maritime Center next week
The HMS Bounty tall ship will visit Charleston next week as part of its East Coast tour, docking at the city’s Maritime Center for a weekend of tours.
The ship is a replica of the British transport vessel on which an infamous mutiny occurred in Tahiti in 1789.
Built for the 1962 movie “Mutiny on the Bounty” with Marlon Brando, HMS Bounty sails the seas and visits ports to offer educational dockside tours. The ship has also appeared in several films, including “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest” and “The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie.”
HMS Bounty will arrive on Thursday and stay through Sunday evening. The ship will be open for tours Friday through Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 children. Kids 5 and under get in free.
Ticket-holders will also be able to tour the Powder Magazine on Cumberland Street for no extra cost. The Powder Magazine was constructed in 1712, making it the oldest public building in South Carolina.
All tour proceeds go to the continued support of the ship and the Powder Magazine’s 300th anniversary exhibition.
