Coast Guard searching by air and sea for possible missing boaters
After finding two flotation devices in the water and getting a cry for help over VHF marine channel 16, Coast Guard Sector Charleston is searching the offshore waters for possible missing boaters.
A Coast Guard spokesman said an orange, Type II, personal flotation device and a pink child’s life ring were found floating in the sea 65 miles east of the city earlier today. Around the same time, there was a radio call for help, the spokesman said.
The Coast Guard has multiple assets involved in the search, both surface and air, the spokesman said. He declined to say how many units were involved.
As of 7 p.m., there had been no reports of overdue boaters.
Anyone with information about boaters that may be missing should call 740-7050.
