College of Charleston, Charleston Southern split softball doubleheader

College of Charleston outfielder Marty Gantt hit .426 during the month of April.

MOUNT PLEASANT — Charleston Southern and College of Charleston split a softball doubleheader on Wednesday at Patriots Point.

Linzy Rother threw 51/3 shutout innings and was 3 for 3 with an RBI double as Charleston Southern won the opener, 3-0. In Game 2, Mackenzie Maples went 3 for 4 and drove in three runs to lead the Cougars to a 7-3 win as the teams split the six games this season.

CSU (29-22) next hosts Radford on Saturday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader. The Cougars (30-20) are next at Elon for a doubleheader Saturday.

Baseball
College of Charleston senior outfielder Marty Gantt was named Southern Conference baseball player of the month for April. Gantt batted .426 during April, reaching base in all but one game.

Tennis
College of Charleston’s top doubles tandem of Kyle Parker and Mickael Trintignac earned an automatic qualification into the NCAA Division I Men’s Doubles Championship.
