Citadel cadets collect 264,000 tabs, cash for Ronald McDonald House
Citadel cadets and community partners collected more than 264,000 aluminum tabs and raised $1,000 to donate to Ronald McDonald House of Charleston.
The donation was a part of the Cadets Caring for Others service project.
Orange Grove Elementary School, Mason Preparatory School, the Department of Corrections, The Citadel’s November and Mike companies and Citadel employees helped with the project.
The tabs, weighing 205 pounds, are worth about $158, bringing the cadets’ fundraising total to $1,158. The tabs will be recycled for money to support Ronald McDonald House operations.
“Community service is an important part of The Citadel experience,” said Cadet Josh Wright, who spearheaded the project. “We want to build on the awareness we generated this year to make next year’s project even bigger.”
Wright is a junior from Moore and the current regimental cadet activities NCO for the South Carolina Corps of Cadets.
