Sullivan’s Island Elementary will join schools, libraries and community groups nationwide in “Screen-Free Week,” a coordinated effort to encourage Americans to turn off televisions, computers and video games for seven days and become more active.

The weeklong campaign is a chance for children to read, play, think, create and spend more time with friends and family.

Michaels Arts and Crafts in Mount Pleasant is offering free craft activities after school to students with a pledge card. To see other activities offered by businesses, or to contribute to the list, visit www.ScreenFree.org.

Excessive screen time is linked to childhood obesity, poor school performance and problems with attention span.
