Trident Academy students combine science, art with fish prints
Trident Academy students fused art and science through the ancient technique of Japanese Gyotaku fish printing.
Trident Academy is a K5-12 school in Mount Pleasant.
During the unit on fish, Upper School zoology students learned to identify body parts, the lateral line and different types of scales.
In art, the students started a unit on linocuts, a process that involves block printing in relief on carved linoleum, inking it and then pressing it with paper. The process is similar to Gyotaku fish prints.
Science teacher Robin Greig and art teacher Will Hegler connected their lessons with the fish printing.
