Moped rider, 61, killed in crash near Moncks Corner
A 61-year-old man was killed Tuesday night after his moped was rear-ended by a car south of Moncks Corner in Berkeley County.
John Brown of Moncks Corner was riding northbound on Old U.S. Highway 52 when his moped was hit by a 2005 Ford Focus traveling in the same direction, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.
Brown, who was not wearing a helmet, died later at a hospital, County Coroner Bill Salisbury said.
Herbert Lee Sullivan III, 24, who was driving the Ford, wasn’t hurt.
The crash occurred just after 10:10 p.m. and tied up traffic at Oakley Road as troopers reconstructed the collision.
Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins said no charges would be filed until the troopers completed their investigation.
