The Charleston County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified a body recovered offshore Tuesday as that of missing Mount Pleasant boater Ronald Fowler.

Fowler, 36, was last seen April 23, according U.S. Coast Guard officials, who searched for Fowler after his boat overturned about 16 miles offshore. Another boater spotted Fowler’s 17-foot skiff on April 24.

A boater found Fowler’s body about 1 p.m. Tuesday, three miles off the Isle of Palms, according to Coast Guard officials. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol and crews from the county Volunteer Rescue Squad, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and others responded and located the body, sheriff’s office Maj, Jim Brady said.

Charleston County Chief Deputy Coroner Bobbi Jo O’Neal said the cause of death remains unknown.
