Summerville fertilizer maker shuts down, sells equipment to firm with North Charleston plant
The owner of a Summerville fertilizer plant that ceased production earlier this week has sold its manufacturing equipment to an Ohio company with a factory in North Charleston.
Pennsylvania-based X-Calibur Plant Health Co. shut down its local line Monday when the deal with Everris Americas closed. Terms were not disclosed.
The sale was announced today.
Everris said in a statement that the equipment will allow it to introduce a new product that complements its existing lines of fertilizers by early next year.
Don Hanson, vice president and general manager of the X-Calibur Plant in Summerville, declined to comment today other than to say “we’re no longer in production.”
He referred questions to an Everris representative who could not be reached immediately for comment.
The equipment acquired by Everris will remain in a 42,000-square-foot factory that X-Calibur Plant had occupied near Jedburg.
Dublin, Ohio-based Everris last year bought a business from Scotts Miracle Gro Co. that had been making fertilizer in North Charleston since 1993.
