Port of Charleston announces new container ship service to China
The Port of Charleston announced a new container shipping service today that will mean 52 additional ship calls yearly at the North Charleston terminal.
The AWE-6, as the service is known, is offered by an alliance of ocean carriers including COSCO, K-Line, Yang Ming and Hanjin. Charleston is the last U.S. port call on the service, providing South Carolina exporters additional options to reach markets in Asia.
The container ships will call on Yantian, Ningbo and Shanghai in China, and Pusan, South Korea, via the Panama Canal.
The first Charleston call is expected around June 19.
