Bond denied in carjacking, murder case

Tyler A. Brown-Kelly wept as a representative of the Indonesian woman he’s accused of killing addressed a judge during a bail hearing this morning in Moncks Corner.

Brown-Kelly is charged with murder after officials say he stole a car at gunpoint late Friday along Dorchester Road in North Charleston and drove off with Luh Endang Susiani, 31, inside. Her body was later found on an Interstate 26 ramp at Jedburg Road.

An affidavit says she was shot in the head and back. It also says that a witness told the police that Brown-Kelly was heard saying he needed a ride Friday night.

Three relatives of Brown-Kelly’s raised doubt that the 28-year-old would be involved with such a crime. They said that he did not have transportation of his own but that family members and friends would always give him a ride when he needed one.

Speaking through an Indonesian government representative from New York, five members of Susiani’s family asked the judge for swift and harsh justice.

As a standard procedure, the judge denied bail and said Brown-Kelly was innocent until proven otherwise.

North Charleston police have also charged Brown-Kelly with kidnapping, carjacking, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and attempted armed robbery, said police spokesman Spencer Pryor.
