College of Charleston rally falls short in 7-6 loss to Western Carolina in baseball

Western Carolina 7, College of Charleston 6
CULLOWHEE, N.C.— College of Charleston scored five runs in the top of the ninth , including a pinch-hit two-run home run from Tyler Jackson, but the late rally could not overcome Western Carolina, which won 7-6 on Saturday in Southern Conference baseball.

The Cougars (30-13, 18-8) trailed 7-1 heading into the ninth. After Jackson’s blast cut the lead to one, reliever Preston Hatcher retired Dre Watts and Marty Gantt to end the game.

Western Carolina (27-16, 11-9) hosts Charleston today at 1 p.m.
