Coast Guard ends search for missing Mount Pleasant boater
The Coast Guard has halted its search for a 36-year-old Mount Pleasant man whose boat was found capsized in the Atlantic Ocean earlier this week.
Ronald Fowler was last seen at noon Monday, after which he was reported missing by his girlfriend, according to authorities.
The girlfriend told the police that Fowler was boating through the Bayview tidal creek and was headed toward Shem Creek.
A passerby discovered his 16-foot Mitzi skiff with a 15-horsepower motor overturned around 1:30 p.m. the next day about 16 miles east of Charleston.
The Coast Guard ended the effort to find him Thursday morning after completing 15 search patterns over 7,324 square miles.
Coast Guard helicopters, airplanes and boats complemented resources from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office and the Mount Pleasant Police Department.
Anyone with information about Fowler’s disappearance should call Coast Guard Sector Charleston’s command center at 740-7050 or Mount Pleasant police at 884-4176.
