Darlington pace car to make pit stops at Bojangles' across state

Mother's Day weekend will bring the annual Southern 500 NASCAR race to Darlington, and Bojangles', the race sponsor, is taking the official pace car on a tour of South Carolina ahead of the race.

The pace car is making five pit stops at Bojangles' restaurants across the state leading up to the May 12 Sprint Cup Series event. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, it will be at the chicken chain's restaurant at 2508 Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston.

Fans can sign the pace car and take photos with it, receive a Bojangles' gift card and enter to win two race tickets or a VIP experience at the Southern 500.

The car was in Greenville and Darlington earlier this week. It will also stop at 2800 Clemson Road in Columbia on Sunday and 10594 N. Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach on May 5.

Fresh perk

The former Park Circle Coffee 'n More, which closed three years ago, has reopened as Richard's Coffee 'n More in an old print shop behind the former Aunt Bea's restaurant on East Montague Avenue in North Charleston. Besides coffee, it offers deli favorites as well as breakfast fare such as waffles, egg sandwiches, bagels and muffins. Richard Campbell, who operated the previous coffee shop down the street, is the owner.

Reincarnation

The former Biggie's Gastropub at 730 Rutledge Ave. in Charleston's upper peninsula has morphed into a new incarnation of what once was Granville's Cafe. Now called Granville's Grocery and Catering, the shop provides customers north of the Crosstown a variety of market items that include dairy, produce, dry goods, wine, cheese, ground beef, chicken and baked filet portions. Seafood could be an offering down the line.

It also offers draft beer and red and white wines six days a week. It's closed on Sunday. Of course, owner Trae Wilson also offers catering.

On the easel

The new arts studio for children opens Saturday.4 Cats will open its fourth U.S. location at 1113 Market Centre Blvd. near Mount Pleasant Towne Centre. The 1,800-square-foot shop's franchise owner is Trista Jones, according to Phil Rose with Twin Rivers Capital.

Spreading Goodwill

Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina will hold a ribbon-cutting at 9 a.m. May 3 for its new Knightsville retail store at 825 Orangeburg Road near Summerville.

To entice people to donate at the store, nearby East Shore Athletic Club will offer a first-month-free membership for those making donations. Refreshments begin at 11 a.m., and giveaways will be held throughout the day.

Relocating

On the Fly catering is leaving 1209 Savannah Highway. No word on where it's moving, but the phone recording says it's relocating. The site once held a Steak-Out restaurant.

Star power

Stop by Hardee's restaurants through May 13, donate $1 and get $10 worth of restaurant coupons.

The donation is part of the fast-food restaurant's “Stars for Heroes” campaign that helps military charities such as Mission Continues and USA Cares.
