Mother of Ridgeville infant in 911 call: Dog has blood all over it
A recording of a 911 call captures the bloody scene a Ridgeville mother found when she returned to her Sandpit Drive home Friday.
“I come home and my sons — my 2 1/2-year-old and my 2-month-old — were awake, and my husband was somewhat awake. I come home and my 2-month-old was laying on the floor with his face down and his leg torn off and his intestines hanging out.
“I don’t want him to die.”
The infant boy, Aiden McGrew, was still breathing and “blinking his eyes,” but he would later die of what a coroner would called a vicious “animal eating” by the family’s Labrador retriever mix.
The mother, Chantel McGrew, told dispatchers after 11 a.m. that the family of five was watching the dog for a friend.
“I believe the dog went after my son,” she said. “The dog has blood all over it.
“It’s put in the bedroom away from the baby because he tried to go after the baby again when I got home.”
Quintin McGrew, the boy’s father, had “dozed off” when the baby was somehow dislodged from his bedroom swing, the mother told the dispatcher.
Local and state authorities continue to investigate the case to determine whether any criminal charges should be filed.
The 911 recording was released today after The Post and Courier filed an S.C. Freedom of Information Act request .
