North Charleston man shot on peninsula dies from wound
A man shot Thursday night during an altercation on the Charleston peninsula has died, authorities said.
Sheldon Singletary, 42, of North Charleston died at Medical University Hospital at 12:16 a.m., Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kimberly Rhoton said.
She would not say how many times he was shot, but a police report described a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said a group of friends were at an Odessa Street home about 4 p.m. when two men began to argue, and the dispute escalated into a physical one.
Kelvin Clay Shuler, 48, of Odessa Street was initially charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, Francis said. He is now charged with murder following Singletary’s death, Francis said.
