Traditional Upper King Street Spring Design Walk set for today

Upper King Street's Spring Design Walk, a decade-long tradition, starts at 5:30 p.m. today with the official opening by Charleston Mayor Pro Tem Dean Riegel at SieMatic at 444 King St. SieMatic, which launched its Charleston presence at Design Walk three years ago, will introduce a new kitchen concept.

Joining them will be celebrated bladesmith Quinton Middleton of Middleton Made Knives, Madame Noire and Buzzfeed blogs.

Also, the interior designers at Haute Design at 489 King will host a reception to raise money for dorm room renovation at the Ronald McDonald House.

Michael Mitchell Gallery at 438 King will host openings for artists Debbie Martin and Susan Colwell. Morris Sokol Furniture at 510 King also will host a reception.

Design Walk strollers also can enjoy specialty cocktails and dishes at restaurants along the street.

Monster Music and Movies will celebrate the fifth annual worldwide Record Store Day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m Saturday at 946 Orleans Rd. in West Ashley.

In addition to about 300 limited, collectible new releases available only at independent record stores on Saturday, the event will include marked-down prices, live music starting at noon from eight bands, several food trucks and games for children and adults. Farm fresh

The North Charleston Farmers Market kicks off its new season from 2 to 7 p.m. today at 1055 E. Montague Ave. in the Olde Village off of Park Circle. It will be open every Thursday until mid-October. In addition to local produce and meats, the market will feature vendors with arts, crafts and gourmet dog treats. Music will be provided certain hours every other Thursday.

Coming of Age LLC is now open at 113 W. 2nd St. South in Summerville. The shop offers etiquette and life skills training, public speaking, face and hair care, confidence building, pageant training and meeting space. Mary Chandler is the owner. ... D&R Gunsmithing & Sales is now open at 124 St. James Ave., Suite 1, in Goose Creek. ... Ride Bikes is now open at 1055 St. Andrews Blvd. in West Ashley. The owner is Greg Jones, who has worked at other bicycle shops in Charleston.

New angle

William Denman Bennett has relocated Denman Bennett Images, an architectural and fine home-photography firm, from Savannah to 76 Spring St. on peninsular Charleston.

Bigger bite

Joey Bag a Donuts at 1118 Park West Blvd. in Mount Pleasant is looking to expand. Owner Joey Casale said he is now offering franchises.
