Weapons charges made in Saturday shooting in North Charleston
Police made weapons possession charges today against a man considered the prime suspect in a Saturday shooting in North Charleston.
Detectives still are investigating the shooting aspect of the 8:45 p.m. incident at Ashley Shores subdivision, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said.
He said a charge of attempted murder is pending against Antwain Laprince Campbell, 18, of Louise Drive in North Charleston. Campbell is being held at Cannon Detention Center on charges of possession of a stolen firearm and unlawful carrying of a pistol, a police report said.
According to the report, Kandez Maiden, whose age and address were not provided, was seen by witnesses running and then collapsing in the subdivision. An officer wrote that Maiden was on the ground, holding a white towel to his stomach and saying, “‘I’m shot, I’m shot’.”
Maiden, who was shot once in the stomach, was taken to a hospital and reportedly did not tell police or relatives who shot him. But the report maintains Campbell admitted he did the shooting. Police who were told the shooter was carrying three weapons located and arrested Campbell in the neighborhood, the report states.
