For tenants who like it rural but not isolated, they may want to look at a house in the middle of Dorchester County coming up for lease June 1.
The address is Ridgeville, but the property at 135 Jenerts Lane is not exactly in town. Actually it’s about 10 miles away from either the town of Ridgeville or the outskirts of Summerville.
Yet the residence — on a six acre, mostly wooded parcel of land — is a mile from the Edisto River and from Givhans State Park and is close to either Givhans Ferry Road heading north or S.C. Highway 61 south to West Ashley.
The vinyl-sided house is for rent for $1,000 a month unfurnished and $1,300 a month furnished, with a year’s lease. No smoking is allowed. Included in the rental fee is regular yard treatment.
It is a well-constructed 1,602-square-foot modular home, with the frame, etc. hauled to the site on three tractor-bed loads and assembled, says Barbara Fry, who with her husband Dr. Michael Fry are renting the house.
The three-bedroom, two-bath dwelling has been for sale until recently, last listed at $174,900. “If someone wants to rent to own, that’s fine,” Barbara Fry says.
What catches the eye is a vaulted ceiling and lighthouse decorations, including on wallpaper and on the custom terrazzo-tile in the master bathroom.
“The house was completely redone in the past five years,” she says. Wood floors mark much of the house, including the large formal living room with bay windows. A breakfast nook separates the living area from a dining room, which also has bay windows.
At one end of the house is a 360-square-foot porch. There is also a detached three-car garage with work station.
In terms of schools, the site is zoned for Beech Hill Elementary and the new Ashley Ridge High. She says the house would be suitable for a family: “It’s a great place for kids.”
For more information, contact the Fry’s at 843-408-8478.
The house is about 10 miles southwest of Ridgeville. From Interstate 26 heading west, take exit 205A, U.S. Highway 78 and follow the highway to Ladson Road. Turn left on Ladson and proceed to Dorchester Road. Turn right on Dorchester and continue to Bacon’s Bridge Road. Make a left on Bacon’s Bridge across the Ashley River. At S.C. Highway 61, turn right and continue on Highway 61 (Beech Hill Road) for about six miles. Where U.S. Highway 17A veers left, stay right on Highway 61 for a little more than a mile and turn left on Old Beech Hill Road. Follow Old Beech Hill for about six miles. Turn right on Campbell Road. Go a mile or two and make a left on Jenerts Lane. Ahead is 135 Jenerts Lane.
