One of the nation’s top linebacker prospects, O’Daniel, commits to Clemson

CLEMSON — Clemson received a commitment from Dorian O’Daniel, one of the nation’s top outside linebacker prospects, on Saturday after the spring game. O’Daniel is the seventh commitment in the class of 2013 for Clemson.

O’Daniel is rated as the No. 6 outside linebacker by Rivals.com, and No. 11 by Scout.com.

The 6-1, 205-pounder from Olney, Md., runs a 4.55-second 40-yard dash, according to some recruiting services.

The U.S. Army All-American attended the spring game with other Clemson 2013 prospects and commitments like quarterback Chad Kelly.

O’Daniel also had offers from schools including Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Oklahoma, Michigan and Wisconsin.

South Carolina added two more commitments Saturday with Jasper Sasser (6-2, 185) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Bryce King (6-4, 290) of Dillon saying they’ll play for the Gamecocks.

“It’s more like family there, and I’ve got a connection with them,” Sasser said. “I love the coaching staff. They graduated 26 seniors. That’s big! I just think it’s going to be the best fit for me out of every school in the nation.”

Sasser plays defensive back, receiver and running back for Wolfson High School, and is not sure where the Gamecocks will use him. Sasser also had offers from Clemson, South Florida, Mississippi, Southern Miss and Central Florida.

King, a 6-4, 290-pound offensive lineman committed while on an unofficial visit for the spring game. King joins his teammate, offensive lineman DJ Park, as Gamecock commitments. King committed to USC over offers from Clemson, LSU, Tennessee, North Carolina, N.C. State and Virginia Tech. USC now has six commitments for their 2013 class.
