LEXINGTON — The Wando boys lacrosse team’s first three playoffs games were breathers. The Warriors outscored their three foes 55-6.

On Saturday, Wando had to hold its breath and hang on for dear life. The Warriors had a four-goal lead at halftime and managed to hold off a determined Dorman team to gain a 7-6 victory in the South Carolina High School League’s lacrosse state championships.

The Warriors pushed their record to 13-1 with the victory in front of about 1,500 fans at White Knoll Stadium. It was their first state title since the High School League snactioned the sport in 2010. The Warriors went to the state championship that year, but lost a 10-8 decision to Greenville.

Dorman scored three goals in a span of 99 seconds to cut the lead to 5-4. But the Warriors’ Connor Johnson scored his second goal of the match to give the Warriors a two-goal cushion with 6:43 in the game.

Dorman was the top seed in the playoffs and finished with a 13-3 record.

Fort Mill won the girls state championship with an 11-10 overtime victory over J.L. Mann.
