Cougars travel to Georgia Southern in key softball matchup

STATESBORO, GA. — The College of Charleston will face league-leading Georgia Southern in a three-game softball series beginning today. The teams play a doubleheader today beginning at 3 p.m. and a single game at 1 p.m. Sunday.

The Cougars (28-13, 11-4) are currently in third place in the Southern Conference but have won 11 straight games and 20 of their last 22.

College of Charleston junior Stephanie Saylors (16-6, 1.39 ERA) is ranked as the league’s No. 1 pitcher, while freshman Hope Klicker (11-6, 1.73 ERA) is fourth in pitching. Saylors and Klicker have both pitched perfect games this year.

Georgia Southern’s Brooke Red (9-0, 1.52 ERA) is second in the league and teammate Sarah Purvis (13-8, 1.66 ERA) is third. The Eagles had a four-game win streak end Tuesday when they lost a doubleheader at Georgia Tech.
