Rondon leads N.C. State to win over Clemson

CLEMSON - Carlos Rondon pitched eight strong innings to lead No. 22 N.C. State to a 3-1 victory over Clemson (20-16, 9-8 ACC) on Saturday to even the weekend series.

The two teams play the series finale at 1 p.m. Sunday.

Rondon allowed one run on five hits, walked four and struck out eight to improve to 6-0.

Clemson starter Dominic Leone (5-3) took the loss. He gave up three runs on nine hits but walked just one and struck out seven in 7 1/3 innings.

Clemson held a 1-0 lead until the seventh when State’s Trea Turner hit a two-out, two-run double off of Leone.

Phil Pohl batted in Clemson’s run with a double scoring Richie Shaffer in the sixth inning.
