The French Quarter Inn (166 Church St.) will host a show and auction of the work of Walterboro artist Bon Grenko beginning May 24 and running through the Spoleto Festival.

Focusing on rural historic structures, Grenko, 84, poured himself into the Lowcountry throughout the 1990s, traveling the region taking innumerable photographs that would inspire thousands of drawings.

Friend and auctioneer Charles “Pat” Hamilton will be at the Inn to direct auctions of Grenko’s work on successive Saturdays — May 26 and June 2 (times to be announced). Apart from the artist’s Lowcountry sketches, also on view will be work from the early 1960s.

Grenko, who will be moving to Phoenix this month to be with his family, announced his retirement earlier this week.
