Fort Mill defeats Wandoi girls in state lacrosse playoffs

FORT MILL — The Wando girls lacrosse team’s reign as state champs came to a painful end Tuesday night as Fort Mill posted a 17-16 triple overtime victory on Tuesday nght in a state semifinal.

“You certainly don’t want to end a season with a loss like that,” Wando coach Jason Ferdinand said. “But the girls showed a lot of heart tonight. They never gave up.”

Fort Mill led 7-6 at halftime and came out and scored the first seven goals of the second half.

The Warriors rallied to force overtime, but the hosts scored 90 seconds into the third overtime to prevail.
