Former Clemson golfer Byrd tied for 19th at Masters
Clemson connection
Former Clemson golfer Jonathan Byrd shot an even round of 72 Saturday to maintain his one-under mark for the tournament.
Byrd is tied for 19th place, trailing leader Peter Hanson (-9) by eight strokes after three rounds.
Byrd will be out to break his own record for best finish by a former Tiger at the Masters today. He finished eighth in 2003 with 288 total strokes and won $162,000. A top 16 finish means an automatic invitation to the 2013 Masters.
If Byrd can post a round of even par or better on Sunday, he will become the first golfer with ties to Clemson to post four rounds of par or better in a Major.
“My pace has been good (regarding his putting),” Byrd said. “I don’t think I have any three-putts all week. But, I have not done well on the par fives. I had one birdie on the par fives today, but overall I haven’t made as many as I should.”
