BRASWELL COLUMN: Polk-Smith win Jenkins Links golf title
Joey Polk and Jonathan Smith took first place in the gross division of the Jenkins Links Golf Association member-member four-ball. Ken Morelli and Mark Pine finished second, and Steve Thomas and Dave Ogle placed third.
Pat Harrington and Greg Griffith won the net division, followed by Chuck Zirkle and Matt Moore, while Joey Schooler and Thomas McInerney finished third.
In the senior division, Warren Peper and Bubber Ulmer won the gross title. Dave Brown and Mike Mazza finished second, and John Weeks and Bob Bacon were third. Frank Lofton and Larry Boudolf were the senior net winners. Russ Greer and Bob Schweitzer finished second and Kenny Todd, and Craig Reed were third.
Ruth Yack and Terry Rickson won the ladies divison.
Charleston Interclub
Miler (Country Club of Summerville) won the Charleston Area Men's Interclub Golf Association match held at the Country Club of Summerville, finishing with 27 points. Wescott was second with 21 and Shadowmoss third with 19. Tom Boyer of Dunes West was the top individual with 13 points, while Pete Carroll of Wescott had 12 points.
Wescott leads the overall standings with 50 points, followed by Stono Ferry, 50; Dunes West, 43; Pine Forest, 40; and Crowfield, 37.5.
Shooting their age
Johnny Sims not only shot his age, 72, Wednesday, he also scored his sixth career hole-in-one while playing at the Country Club of Summerville. Sims aced No. 4, 130 yards, using a 7-iron while playing with Jim Hemenway and Jim Barbaree.
Also Wednesday, Bufort Blanton, shot 79, one under his age at Summerville Country Club.
Mount Pleasant juniors
Registration is underway for the Mount Pleasant Junior Golf Association Summer Tour, which begins June 5 and continues until August. The series, open to boys and girls ages 8-18, costs $195 and includes eight chapter tournaments and South Carolina Junior Golf Association membership.
