RiverDogs win season opener; Atlanta Braves’ Hudson to start today

Jose Campos started the game with four perfect innings and left after the sixth inning without allowing a run as the Charleston RiverDogs beat the Rome Braves, 1-0, in front of 3,492 at Riley Park on Friday night.

The only run of the game came from Kelvin De Leon, who hit a towering home run to left in the fourth inning.

“I wasn’t thinking about any one thing,” Campos said. “I was really just going pitch-by-pitch.”

Pedro Guerra relieved in the seventh inning and picked up right where Campos left off, striking out the first and last batter and pitching a 1-2-3 inning.

Ballpark fun
Before the game, fans were able to ride around the warning track on the new RiverDogs Express train. The Express will be riding around the warning track before every Friday home game during the year. The game also marked the first General Dynamics Land Systems-Force Protection Industries Red Shirt Friday. Fans who wore red to The Joe were given $1 off their ticket and then were able to donate the buck to a military family in need thanks.

Three-time All-Star and Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Tim Hudson will make a rehab start today when the RiverDogs host Rome at Riley Park. First pitch is slated for 7:05 pm.

Hudson is coming off November surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back.

Rome manager Randy Ingle confirmed Thursday night that Hudson will start the game and that he is expected to throw “two-to-three innings.”

Today will be Go Local Saturday at The Joe, as tri- county residents can save $1 on their tickets.

The first 1,000 fans to the game will receive a limited edition 2012 South Atlantic League All-Star Game cap.
