McGibbon, Firth lead Clemson to extra innings win at Duke
Clemson’s John McGibbon tripled in 11th inning and scored the first of three runs in the frame to lead Clemson to a 4-1 victory over Duke in the weekend series opener in Durham, N.C. on Friday night.
The Tigers improved to 16-14 overall and 6-7 in the ACC. Duke fell to 13-18 overall and 5-8 in ACC play.
Clemson ace Kevin Brady rebounded from a poor start last weekend to allow just one run over six innings, striking out three against one walk. Scott firth pitched five shutout innings in relief.
Duke ace Marcus Stroman, one of the nation’s best strikeout pitchers, allowed just one unearned run in nine innings, striking out 13 Tigers.
